FIELD GUIDE

Was that here before?

Every turn, a kingfisher appears in one of eight places and a letter is spoken or shown in the center. Compare each signal with the one exactly N turns ago, not just any earlier turn.

At 1-back, compare with the previous turn. At 2-back, skip the previous turn and compare with the turn before it. The first N turns have no earlier partner: don't mark a match yet.

Press A / Position match for the location and L / Letter match for the letter. You may select either, both, or neither. Press again to undo a selection before the turn ends. Space advances self-paced play; P pauses. On a timed challenge, answers lock when its progress bar empties.

Practice gives immediate explanations. Challenges contain 20+N turns, exactly six matches per channel, and two turns where both match. At the end, see your hits, misses and false alarms.

Score is hit rate minus false-alarm rate, averaged across both channels. Guessing everything cannot earn a good score. Above 85% suggests a higher N; below 70% suggests a lower N. This is a game, with no promised cognitive benefit.
